Bridge of Hope Celebrates Global Handwashing Day 2018
On 15 October 2018, Bridge of Hope celebrated Global Handwashing Day- an annual global advocacy day dedicated to increasing awareness and understanding about the importance of handwashing with soap as a key approach to disease prevention and saving lives.
Each year, children lose 242 million school days due to diarrhea. This illness can be prevented by the simple act of washing hands with soap.
With the aim to inculcate this healthy habit among children, Bridge of Hope held awareness programs where the Bridge of Hope staff taught children and community members the importance of washing their hands at critical times, before meals and after using the restroom.
Handwashing demonstrations were held at public places, bus stands, streets and villages where Bridge of Hope staff and children taught people the steps to washing hands with soap.
Bridge of Hope also took out rallies to promote hand hygiene and sanitation. Carrying banners, canvassing on microphones and distributing leaflets describing the benefits of handwashing they were able to enlighten the society on how hand washing with soap reduces the incidence of diseases and ensures a healthier life.
Bridge of Hope organizes similar programs each year to inculcate positive habits among children to keep them on track for a healthy future.
You too can be part of this endeavor by choosing to sponsor a child through Bridge of Hope.
